Security Deposit Regulations
- In this state, there’s no state-imposed limit on the amount charged for a security deposit. This means that the security deposit could sometimes surpass the monthly rent.
- Regardless of the circumstances, Indiana law mandates that landlords must return the security deposit within 45 days following the termination of the lease. This is in accordance with the State Law. The only circumstance in which a landlord may withhold the security deposit is to cover the cost of repairs for damages that occurred during the tenant’s occupancy.
